Cotton Fabric Hand Block Print Nightlife.
Block printing is known to have been used in India since the 12th century. A design, either traditional or modern, is intricately carved into a block of wood. Block printing is known to have been used in India since the 12th century.
A separate block must be made for each colour to be incorporated into the design. The block is then dipped into the dye, pressed firmly onto the fabric and then hit with a mallet.
This process is repeated hundreds of times per design. The artisan must wait for each colour to dry on the fabric before applying the next, each with a new block.
Block printing is highly time-consuming and requires great skill and precision so there are no breaks in the motif. Every block-printed fabric is made by hand, in tiny quantities and in a style that hasn't changed for hundreds of years.
Please handwash the material separately before use.
