Our Story
Inspired by the rich heritage, diverse regional techniques and colourful palette of Indian textiles, Sapling Textiles grew from a tiny seed of an idea. The idea was to create a space for the non-sewer to be inspired to a creative outlet to sew, craft, design, and dream. For the experienced and nostalgic sewer, we have created a place for you to return to your skill with renewed vigour.
We are a small, family and ethically focused store in the heart of Maleny in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. We aim to employ local people and source unique fabrics, soft furnishings, bedding and accessories from India. We strive to support and showcase the work of local artisans and craftspeople and to provide a comprehensive range of haberdashery for the local sewing community.
We call this space Sapling Textiles because it is young but robust, flexible with a great deal of growing to do but firmly planted in our hope: to showcase Indian fabrics and textile traditions to an increasingly interested public. Sapling Textiles offers customers the opportunity to buy 100% cotton, a range of GOTS-certified organic cotton, linen, silk, modal, and velvet. For our customers weary of mass-produced, synthetic, and often poorly made garments, hand-embroidered crewel work by the metre and make their own.
For many customers, the experience is aesthetic. There is the ability to see, touch and smell the fabrics adorning the walls and rummage through little jars of hand-crafted buttons in ceramics, wood and polymer clay amidst other handmade treasures. We hope you love our range as much as we enjoyed sourcing it for you.
